ABOUT THE ARTWORK
In the series Citations Profondes, Jay Ezra collected phrases that he overheard either in public spaces or during personal discussions. These phrases not only serve as an eye-hole into the shameless honesty, ruthless judgements, and sexual vulgarity that so often surfaces during discussion amongst confidants, but also to recount, albeit uninhibitedly, about a generation deeply occupied with physical appearances, materialism, and the superficial. Whether it be in English or in French, there exists a common style, voice, and word choice that is unique to this generation. The text is juxtaposed with photographs of man-made nature, from central park to a berlin sidewalk, that echo the artificiality and superficiality of the conversation.
